Are You At Risk For Falling?

Are You At Risk For Falling?

April 2, 2018

Balance is one of the most underrated health problems in our society. A lot of the time, we think balance problems are something that happens as we age and there is nothing we can do about it. We tend to just accept it and move on.

Unfortunately, balance problems typically worsen if they are not addressed. There is hope though!  Physical Therapy can improve your balance!

Balance deficits can occur due to joint pain, weakness, medication, neurological conditions, or sensory disorders. At Diamond Physical Therapy, we look at each component of your balance to determine what the cause of your balance problem is and we then show you how to fix it.

We use a state of the art computer that is able to measure how well your balance senses are working and it allows us to objectively follow your improvement with your balance.

Your balance senses include your inner ears (vestibular system), your vision, and your somatosensory system (the nerves in your joints and your feet). Deficits can occur in any of the three balance senses. Fortunately, we can assess each of these senses and with the correct exercises, your balance senses can improve!

Each year 1 out of 3 seniors will fall. 1 out of 5 falls will cause a serious injury such as a broken bone or a head injury. Did you know falling once will double your chances of falling again?

The best way to help avoid these falls is to prevent them! The best way to prevent them is to keep your balance as healthy and stable as it can be. That is what the physical therapists at Diamond Physical Therapy are trained in doing!

So if you are having trouble with your balance, talk to your doctor and come see a physical therapist at Diamond Physical Therapy. We will begin making you more stable with walking, standing, shopping, playing with the grandchildren, or even just getting out of a chair!
